I was just thinking about the team meeting earlier. The discussion about streamlining the weekly inventory check was actually quite productive. Sarah mentioned a system her previous store used, a simple color-coded tag method for items needing reorder. It sounded straightforward. Mark suggested we trial it for a month in the dry goods section first. We all agreed. I need to remember to order those tags on Monday. The red for urgent, yellow for monitor, green for stocked. Simple.
Later, I was planning the menu for the weekend. I think I'll try that new roasted vegetable pasta bake recipe I saw. It calls for zucchini, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, and red onion. Toss them in olive oil and herbs, roast until caramelized, then mix with cooked penne and a little feta cheese. Maybe add some spinach at the end for color. It's a good way to use up the veggies from the market. I should write the shopping list. Penne, feta, definitely need more cherry tomatoes.
The memo about the updated break room policy was posted. Basically just a reminder to clean up after yourself and label personal items in the fridge. Fair enough. It's amazing how a shared space can get so cluttered so quickly. I think a simple chart for dishwasher loading might be the next frontier. Load glasses on top, plates facing the sprayer, utensils handle-down. A small diagram could prevent so many re-washes. I might sketch one out.
I got a letter from my aunt today. She's doing well, talking about her garden. Her tomatoes are thriving this year, she says. She's planning to make a big batch of sauce to can for the winter. She asked about my work, as always. I told her it's busy but good, focusing on member service and logistics. She doesn't really understand wholesale clubs, but she nods along. She included a pressed flower from her lavender plant. It still smells faintly. I'll put it in my notebook.
The dialogue in the coffee shop this morning was about travel. Two people at the next table were debating the merits of planning every detail versus just winging it. One was a firm planner, talking about spreadsheets for itineraries. The other preferred to land and figure it out. "You miss the spontaneous finds," he said. The planner countered, "You also miss the fully-booked tours." I see both sides. For a short trip, maybe a plan. For a longer stay, leave some room. My own next trip is just a vague idea. Somewhere with mountains.
Back to work thoughts. The seasonal transition is coming up. We need to start thinking about moving the patio furniture displays to the front and phasing out the winter gear. It's a big logistical shift. It always requires extra hands and careful planning to avoid aisle blockages. Maybe we can do it in sections overnight. I'll float that idea. Overnight shifts are quieter, less disruption for members. Need to check labor budget. The goal is always a seamless change for when members walk in. They should see the new season, not the work behind it.
