Harbor Freight

I think the best approach for the backyard project would be to start with the patio layout first. We measured the space last weekend and it is about 12 by 16 feet which gives us plenty of room for a small seating area and a grill station. The concrete pavers we looked at from the home supply store come in a variety of colors but I think the charcoal gray would look best with the existing fence. We will need to level the ground first and add a base layer of gravel before laying the pavers. My neighbor did something similar last year and he said the whole process took about two weekends with help from a couple of friends. We should also think about drainage so water does not pool near the house foundation. I can borrow a plate compactor from my brother to help settle the base properly. Let me know if you want to start this weekend or wait until the weather improves a bit more.

Regarding the tools we will need I already have a good level and a rubber mallet but we might need to pick up a few more items like a string line and some landscape fabric. The local hardware store usually has everything in stock and they offer a discount if you buy in bulk. I can swing by on Thursday after work to check prices and availability. Let me know if you have any other thoughts on the layout or the materials.

The book I was telling you about is really worth reading if you enjoy historical fiction. The author spent years researching the time period and it really shows in the details about daily life and customs. I finished it last week and immediately passed it along to my sister who also loved it. The main character goes through such a transformation over the course of the story and the supporting characters are all well developed too. There is a chapter about halfway through that completely changed my perspective on the events being described. I found myself staying up way too late on a work night just to finish one more chapter. You can borrow my copy whenever you want just let me know when you are ready and I will drop it off.

I also heard the author is working on a sequel that picks up where this one left off which would be great. The publisher is planning a release sometime next fall and there is already a waiting list at the library. If you like the first one you might want to reserve the next one early. Let me know what you think when you get a chance to read it.
