Hey, just got back from that hike I was telling you about. The trail was steeper than I remembered, but we took it slow. There was this one part where we had to scramble over some pretty big rocks, and I almost slipped, but my friend grabbed my arm. We saw a red-tailed hawk circling overhead for a while. It was amazing. We got a bit lost around the halfway point because the markers were faded, but we found our way using a map on my phone. The view from the top was totally worth it. We sat up there for maybe an hour just eating snacks and watching the clouds roll in. Anyway, just wanted to share. Talk soon!

I just finished this book about the history of mapmaking. It's incredible how early explorers pieced together coastlines and continents without ever seeing them from above. They relied heavily on logs from sailors and stories from merchants. Some maps had mythical creatures and islands that never existed because someone misheard a description. The book talked about how the Mercator projection, while great for navigation, completely distorts the size of continents near the poles. It really makes you think about how we perceive the world. I've been looking at Google Maps differently now, wondering about the stories behind the names. Also, finding p7CvXXLQvPOD2w in the archives was a cool detail. Anyway, just a random thought. Hope you're having a good week!
