Yes I looked into the trail conditions last night and the main loop is open but the spur to the upper viewpoint is still closed due to some erosion work they are doing. The ranger station posted an update saying it should reopen in about two weeks but for now we will have to stick to the lower trail. The total distance is around 5 miles with about 800 feet of elevation gain which is moderate for our group. I suggest we meet at the usual parking area near the ranger station since the lot closer to the trailhead fills up early on weekends. We should each carry at least a liter of water and maybe some light layers because the temperature drops a bit in the shaded sections near the creek. I will bring a small first aid kit and some trail mix to share. If we start by 8 we can be back by early afternoon and grab lunch at that cafe in town. Let me know if you want to adjust the meeting time or if you have any concerns about the terrain. I think it will be a good outing for everyone.

For the raised beds I would go with a mix of compost and topsoil rather than bagged garden soil because it drains better and has more organic matter. The tomatoes should be staked early before they get too tall and I use bamboo poles with soft ties. If you see any curled leaves it could be from inconsistent watering or possibly aphids which you can spray off with a gentle stream of water. I usually check the underside of leaves every few days because that is where pests tend to hide. Your variety sounds like it should do well in the climate you described and with the trellis system you built I think you will have plenty of support for the vines. I would also suggest adding a layer of straw mulch to keep the soil temperature stable and reduce evaporation during the hotter afternoons. One more thing if you notice the flowers dropping off before setting fruit it could be due to temperatures above ninety degrees during pollination which is common in midsummer. Providing some shade cloth during the peak heat hours can help extend the fruiting period.
