I think the raised bed layout would work best for the community garden this year since the soil test showed the northeast corner has the best drainage and that is where the tomatoes and peppers should go. The spring mix lettuce and herbs can go closer to the shed where they get afternoon shade. We should order seeds by mid-February to get the varieties we want. The county extension office recommended adding compost and a light application of lime to balance the pH. The drip lines in at least three beds need to be replaced from last season. If everyone can commit to a Saturday in early March we can get the frames assembled and the soil turned before the spring rains start. Let me know what you think about the layout plan I sketched out and whether we should also add a few more beds for the squash and cucumbers this year. I checked the shed and we have enough stakes and twine for the tomatoes. The compost bin is ready to be turned and should yield good material by planting time.

Your Courtesy Roadside Kit Is Ready

A regionally supported program for licensed drivers in your area

Get your courtesy kit

Because you are a licensed driver in your service region, you qualify for the AAA Courtesy Bundle through our locality program. This kit is provided at no charge to eligible residents - you will not be billed for the kit and no payment is required.

What the bundle includes:

Reflective safety triangle set

Durable nitrile glove pair

Emergency blanket with heat retention

Multi-tool with pliers and blade

LED flashlight with batteries

First aid kit (30-piece)

Roadside assistance guide booklet

Jumper cables (12-foot, heavy duty)

Tire pressure gauge with digital display

Safety vest with reflective stripes

Emergency whistle with lanyard

Zip ties and cable management kit

Weatherproof storage pouch

Contact card for program services

Supplies are allocated by program availability for each region. We encourage eligible residents to confirm their kit while the current allocation remains open.

Thank you for being a valued driver in your community. We are glad to support your readiness on the road.

I was thinking we could try a rotating format for the book club this quarter with each meeting focusing on a different genre. March could be contemporary fiction, April for non-fiction, and May for a classic that people have been wanting to read. The challenge with our current approach is that not everyone finishes the book each month so maybe we could also share short stories or articles related to the theme for those who don't have time for the full read. I have put together a shortlist of titles for each category that I can share with the group. We should also decide on the meeting location since the library community room is not available in April. My house could work if everyone is comfortable with that or we could rotate homes. Let me know if you have other ideas for the format or the book selections. I am happy to send around a poll to see which dates work best for everyone this quarter.
