Hey Jenna, thanks for looping me in. I've been thinking about the layout fo=
r the Henderson project all morning. The main issue isn't the square footag=
e itself, it's how the natural light moves across the west-facing wall afte=
r about 2 PM. I did a quick mock-up where we shift the primary seating area=
by maybe three feet to the left, just enough to catch that golden hour glo=
w without making the dining space feel cramped. I also looked at the fabric=
swatches you sent over last week. The woven linen blend, I think it was ca=
lled "Oatfield," feels perfect for the main sofa but it might be too heavy =
visually for the accent chairs. A better match might be that subtly texture=
d cotton twill from the same collection, the one with the faint herringbone=
pattern we saw in the catalog. My only real concern is the rug dimensions.=
We'll want at least a nine-by-twelve if we're moving the sofa, otherwise t=
he front legs won't rest on the pile and the room will feel visibly unbalan=
ced. Let's pencil in a quick call for Thursday to walk through the revised =
sightlines before I send any final drawings to the print shop. Also, remind=
me to ask about the lead time on those custom oak legs for the console tab=
le. Last time I checked they were backed up by nearly four weeks but that m=
ight have changed since the holiday rush ended.

I'm glad you brought up the topic of soil amendments again because I've bee=
n experimenting quite a bit with our raised beds this season. The key diffe=
rence I've noticed has less to do with the brand of compost and everything =
to do with the ratio of coarse sand to organic matter. Last fall, I mixed r=
oughly two parts sieved homemade compost with one part sharp sand and a han=
dful of crushed eggshells, and the drainage was markedly better for the ros=
emary and lavender. For the tomato bed, though, that mix was a disaster bec=
ause they're heavier feeders and the sand just let the nutrients wash right=
through before the roots could take them up. What worked instead was a fif=
ty-fifty blend of aged horse manure and leaf mold, topped with a couple inc=
hes of straw mulch once the seedlings established. Watering went from a dai=
ly chore to every third day. If you're still fighting with compacted clay i=
n the front border, I'd skip the sand entirely and just keep layering cardb=
oard and wood chips; the worms will do the heavy lifting over winter. I can=
drop off a bag of worm castings from my bin this weekend if you want to gi=
ve the peonies a boost before they set buds.
