Hey, thanks for checking in about the weekend plans. I ended up driving out=
toward the ridge after all and the weather held up better than expected. T=
he trail was mostly dry with a few soft patches near the creek crossing, bu=
t nothing that required turning back. I did lose track of time around the m=
idpoint and had to pick up the pace on the return loop to beat the sunset. =
It worked out fine, though I think next time I will bring a second layer si=
nce the wind picks up after the tree line thins out.

The back half of the loop has a few sections where the markers fade a bit, =
so having a downloaded map helped more than a signal connection would have.=
I stopped for a while near the overlook and just listened to the birds and=
the water below. Good reset for the week. If you decide to go later in the=
month, I can drop a pin with the parking spot. It was easy to find even on=
a weekday, and there were only a couple other cars at the trailhead. Not b=
ad at all. I also finally remembered to pack trail snacks that did not turn=
into crumbs inside the bag, so that was a small win. The whole trip took a=
little over four hours with breaks. Let me know if you want the route deta=
ils.

So, about that question you had on assembling the shelving unit, I think th=
e trick is to lay everything flat first and sort the hardware into little p=
iles before you start. I ended up doing that after a frustrating first atte=
mpt where I kept picking up the wrong size screws. Once I had it organized,=
the whole thing went together in about thirty minutes. The instructions we=
re a bit blurry in the middle section, but the illustrations were clear eno=
ugh to figure out the order.

One thing I wish I had done differently was attach the back panel before th=
e top shelf, because getting the top aligned afterward was awkward. Not imp=
ossible, just fiddly. The whole unit feels sturdy now, and I put the heavie=
r books on the lower shelf just to be safe. I did not bother drilling into =
the studs for the anchor kit since the unit is only four feet tall, but if =
you have kids around or live in a place with small quakes, I would go ahead=
and secure it. Overall it is a useful piece for the price and the finish i=
s a little lighter in person than the online photos, which actually worked =
out better for the room. Let me know how yours turns out if you pick one up=
.

Yeah, I remember that conversation about taking the train instead of drivin=
g for the next trip. I looked into it a little more and the schedule actual=
ly lines up pretty well, even with the transfer. You would leave a bit earl=
ier than usual but the total travel time is nearly the same. The seats on t=
he newer cars are comfortable enough, and the phone signal does drop in a f=
ew spots where the tracks run through the hills. Not a big deal unless you =
are trying to stream something the whole way.

I had a window seat on the left side heading NJxLUZ6m8Eqqtw outbo=
und and the view across the water was better than I expected. Bring a light=
jacket because the air conditioning can be aggressive, especially in the m=
iddle cars. The food options at the station were limited but I packed a san=
dwich and some fruit, which saved time. Once you arrive, the walk from the =
platform to the main street is maybe ten minutes, mostly flat. I think if t=
he forecast is clear, the train is the better way to go. It removes the str=
ess of parking and you can actually enjoy the scenery. If the dates line up=
, I would say book the early departure to beat the afternoon crowd on the r=
eturn side.
