hey there, thanks for checking in. i was just sitting here thinking about h=
ow the weekend kind of got away from me, you know? one minute it was friday=
afternoon and the next thing i knew it was sunday night and i hadn't done =
any of the things i said i would. nothing major, just little stuff like reo=
rganizing the closet and finishing that book i started two months ago. i ke=
ep telling myself i'll get to it next week but next week always turns into =
next month. anyway, i finally made it to the park yesterday and the weather=
was perfect, not too hot, not too cold. there was a breeze coming through =
the trees and it felt like the whole city had the same idea. kids were runn=
ing around, people were walking their dogs, someone was flying a kite that =
kept dipping and diving. i grabbed a bench near the fountain and just watch=
ed for a while. it's funny how much better things look when you slow down f=
or a second. i should do that more often instead of rushing from one thing =
to the next. the trees are starting to turn just a little bit, not full col=
or yet but you can see the edges changing. i found a leaf on the ground tha=
t was half green and half yellow and i kept it.

i'm thinking about trying a new hiking trail this weekend if the weather ho=
lds up. nothing too intense, just something with a good view at the top. le=
t me know if you want to come along. it's always better to have company on =
the trail, especially if we get lost. i'll bring snacks and water and proba=
bly a map so we don't end up wandering around for hours. there's supposed t=
o be a waterfall about halfway through and i've been wanting to see it for =
ages. i heard it's not huge but it's pretty loud when you get close. anyway=
, that's what's on my mind right now. hope your week is going well and you =
got some decent sleep. talk soon and don't forget to stretch before any lon=
g walks. my knees always remind me when i skip the warm up.

hey, quick update on the garden situation. the tomatoes finally came in and=
i think i planted way too many. every morning i go outside and there's ano=
ther handful ready to pick. i've been slicing them up with a little salt an=
d pepper and eating them straight off the cutting board. honestly, that mig=
ht be the best way to have them. the basil is doing great too, so i've been=
making caprese salad almost every night. mozzarella, tomato, basil, a litt=
le olive oil and balsamic. simple but so good. i tried roasting some of the=
extra tomatoes yesterday with garlic and thyme. they shriveled up and got =
all sweet and concentrated. i put them on pasta with some parmesan and it w=
as probably the best meal i've cooked in a while. next year i think i'll pl=
ant fewer tomatoes and more peppers. the bell peppers are coming in but the=
y're still small. maybe another week or two before they're ready. the zucch=
ini plant, on the other hand, is going absolutely wild. i found one hiding =
under the leaves that was the size of a football. i didn't even see it unti=
l i was weeding. AeajbJJmSfco i've been giving some to the neigh=
bors because there's no way i can eat this much on my own. they seem happy =
about it, or at least they're polite enough to take them without complainin=
g. anyway, that's the garden news. it's been a good season for learning. i'=
m already thinking about what to try next spring. maybe cucumbers or some k=
ind of leafy green. i'll keep you posted if anything interesting comes up. =
hope your plants are doing well too and that the squirrels are leaving thin=
gs alone for once.
