I get what you are asking about the community garden plot rotation and I have been thinking through the same question since our meeting last Tuesday. The beds along the south fence get the strongest afternoon light but they also dry out faster than the others do. Marigolds did really well there last season, though the zucchini struggled until we shifted the watering schedule to every other morning. I would suggest we keep the tomatoes in rows three and four because they appreciated the deeper soil that accumulated near the compost bins. For the herbs, basil and parsley should probably go where the cucumbers were, since that corner stays moist longer and they both prefer that kind of consistent moisture. The sunflowers can stay along the back edge but maybe we should thin them out more aggressively this time so they do not block the peppers again. Speaking of peppers, I talked to Diane and she said the jalapenos and poblanos cross pollinated a bit last summer, which is why the poblanos came out with more heat than expected. If we separate them by a few more feet, or put the marigolds in between, that should cut down on the crossing. The strawberry bed is going to need new runners because the current plants are on their third year and producing smaller fruit than they did before. We can split that work over two weekends if people are willing to bring their own trowels and kneeling pads. Also, the rain barrel near the tool shed has a slow leak around the spigot, so we should add that to the maintenance list before the next heavy rain arrives. I can bring extra washers and plumbers tape on Saturday, it should only take about twenty minutes to fix. The compost thermometer is still missing from the supply bin, so if anyone sees it at home, please bring it back so we can keep tracking the pile temperature.

Omaha Steaks

Hand-selected cuts, prepared with care

A Note from Our Culinary Team

A selection of gourmet steaks is being prepared for a limited group of households.

Our kitchen works directly with ranching partners to identify the most consistent, well-marbled cuts throughout the year. For this sampler, we have set aside 500 gourmet boxes, each typically valued at more than $600. Recipients of this notice are confirmed to receive one sampler, with no payment required and nothing billed to your card for the items themselves.

Each sampler is limited to one per household, and the program closes tomorrow. We recommend confirming your address details before then to avoid any delivery delays.

Inside Your Box

4 Ribeyes

4 Filet Mignons

6 Top Sirloins

4 New York Strips

Each cut is hand-selected and flash-frozen to lock in peak flavor. Quantities are determined by program allocation.

Thanks for taking a moment to review this notice from our culinary team.

You asked about the pottery class schedule and whether the evening session conflicts with the book club times, so I checked with the community center office this morning. The wheel throwing class runs Tuesday and Thursday from six to eight in the fall session, while the book club meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at seven. That means there is no direct overlap, but you would be attending three evenings a week if you sign up for both. The instructor for the Tuesday class is Lauren, who also does the raku firing workshops in the spring, and she tends to assign a lot of at home practice between sessions. The Thursday class is led by Marcus, and his focus is more on hand building and slab work than on the wheel, which some people find easier on their wrists. The community center rents out tool kits for a deposit, but most regulars end up buying their own trimming tools and ribs after the first few weeks. The kiln room is only open on weekends for open studio time, so factor that in if you plan to glaze pieces outside of class. Also, the clay reclaim bin is now behind the east door instead of by the sink, which took some people by surprise last week. If you want to share a shelf with someone, both of you need to fill out the storage label form at the front desk. The fall session ends the week before Thanksgiving, and there is usually a small gallery night in the lobby where students can display two finished pieces each. I hear the raku firing in April fills up quickly, so if that interests you, add your name to the waitlist early.
