So when you asked about how to structure the day trip to the coast with two small kids, I gave it some thought. I think leaving by eight in the morning works best because the tide is lower then and the kids can actually walk out onto the sandbars without the water being too deep. Bring a roll of trash bags for wet shoes and maybe a second set of clothes for each child. The parking lot near the southern entrance fills up by ten, so if you arrive later you will end up walking half a mile. For lunch, the deli on Cedar Street is still good and they do not mind if the kids make a little noise. After lunch, drive up to the overlook before heading back because the kids will probably fall asleep in the car and you can sit quietly for ten minutes. That is my honest suggestion for the afternoon.

MARRIOT
HOTELS  ·  STAY RECOGNITION PROGRAM

A note for our returning guests

Your previous stay qualifies you for a restful upgrade

Because you stayed at a Marriot Hotel or a Marriot partnered hotel within the past year, we are sending a two-piece luxury cooling pillow set to your household at no charge. You will not be billed for the pillows.

After you complete a brief questionnaire, you can also claim a two-night stay at select locations, provided at no charge. One pillow set per household. A total of 800 pillow sets are available, and this program ends tomorrow.

Redeem Your Pillows + 2 Nights

What makes these cooling pillows stand out

1. A breathable cover layer that helps regulate surface temperature as you rest.

2. A removable, washable outer shell for easy upkeep and long-term use.

3. Balanced loft that keeps your head aligned whether you sleep on your back or side.

4. Contouring memory material that eases pressure points around the neck and shoulders.

5. A moisture-wicking inner layer designed to keep the surface dry through the night.

6. Dense, quiet support that does not shift or flatten after repeated use.

Quantities are determined by program allocation. Access to stay dates and locations is based on program scheduling, and confirmation details are shared after the questionnaire is completed.

Thanks for staying with Marriot Hotels. Your time and feedback help us keep improving the places you rest.

For the neighborhood potluck next Saturday, I was thinking we could bring something that does not need to be reheated. My plan is to make a cold pasta salad with olives, chopped cucumber, and a light vinaigrette. If you want to bring a dessert, maybe do the lemon squares you made last spring because everyone kept asking for the recipe. The event starts at five, but if we get there fifteen minutes early we can set up our chairs near the big oak tree. I am also bringing a folding table, so we do not have to balance plates on our laps. Let me know if you want to carpool. I can swing by your place around four thirty and we can load everything into the back of my car. That gives us enough time to find parking on the side street.
