Hey Cara, thanks for reaching out about the neighborhood potluck next weeke=
nd. I totally get why you were asking about the seating arrangement and whe=
ther we should set up the long folding tables along the driveway or cluster=
them near the garden. In my experience, keeping everything closer to the k=
itchen entrance makes refilling drinks and carrying warm dishes a lot simpl=
er, especially once the sun starts going down and people are moving around =
with plates in their hands. Last year we had that one table way out by the =
elm tree and it ended up being mostly empty because nobody wanted to walk t=
hat far with a full plate of casserole.

So my vote would be to do two rows of tables near the side porch, with a sm=
all gap in the middle so people can step through without bumping elbows. If=
you are worried about shade, the big umbrella from your patio set can go a=
t the end near the fence. For the serving table, maybe put it against the h=
ouse wall so the extension cord for the warming trays does not become a tri=
pping hazard. I can bring two extra coolers full of ice if you think we wil=
l need them for drinks. Let me know what you think and if you want me to pi=
ck up anything from the store on Friday morning.

Hey Marcus, I wanted to get back to you about the orchard schedule for next=
month. You had asked whether the early harvest crew should focus on the ea=
stern slope first or if we should split the group and rotate through the lo=
wer berm at the same time. Honestly, I think starting with the eastern slop=
e in the morning while the air is still cool makes the most sense. That are=
a gets the strongest sun later in the day, so picking there after noon just=
wears people out. By the time everyone takes a lunch break, the crew can s=
hift to the lower berm and work the afternoon in a bit more shade.

For the ladder checks, I will go through all twelve of the extension ladder=
s on Tuesday morning and tag the two that have wobbly rungs. My brother sai=
d he can weld the broken brace on the third one if we bring it over this we=
ekend, so maybe we can coordinate that with the tool shed cleanup. Also, I =
left a note for Dana about the picking buckets - a few have cracked handles=
, and I think we should set those aside for the garden crew instead of usin=
g them during harvest. Let me know if you want me to draft the task list fo=
r the group.
