So I was thinking about what you asked earlier regarding the community garden plot rotation for next spring.

The main thing to sort out is whether we want to keep the tomato section where it was last year or shift it closer to the fence line where the soil got more afternoon sun. A few of the older plots near the shed had issues with drainage after that heavy rain in June, and I think moving the root vegetables there might actually help loosen things up a bit. If we rotate the leafy greens into the center beds, they will get a little more shade from the trellis, which worked well two seasons ago when we had that heat wave.

I checked with the supply coordinator about mulch delivery, and they can drop off six cubic yards the first week of April if we confirm by the end of this month. The compost bins are almost full, so we should plan a turning day soon before the weather turns cold. Also, the tool shed lock combination changed, and I have the new code written down to share at the next meeting. Let me know your thoughts on the plot map and we can finalize the signup sheet for returning volunteers.

Omaha Steaks

Hand-selected cuts, prepared with care

A gourmet sampler may be reserved for you

Omaha Steaks has set aside 500 gourmet boxes for this program. Each sampler is provided at no charge to recipients, with one sampler per household. The offer ends tomorrow.

View details

The sampler highlights our most-requested cuts. Each piece is hand-selected and flash-frozen to hold in flavor from the moment it leaves our aging rooms.

A standard box in this collection is priced over $600, but recipients in this program will not be billed for the sampler.

Inside Your Box

6 Top Sirloins

4 New York Strips

4 Filet Mignons

4 Ribeyes

Quantities are determined by program allocation. We ask each participant to reserve only one sampler per household.

Regarding the office book club pick for next month, I finally got a chance to read through the first three chapters of the novel everyone voted on in the group chat.

The pacing is much slower than what we read in the spring, but the character development is surprisingly layered. There is a long section set in a coastal town that seems to drag a little, though I think it sets up a reveal later about the main character's family history. A few people said the older sister's subplot felt tacked on, and I can see that, but I also think it gives the ending more emotional weight. If we stick with this title, we might want to break the discussion into two sessions so everyone gets time to share.

On a separate note, the community room is booked for a craft fair the second weekend, so we may need to move our meeting to the smaller conference space near the south entrance. The projector in there works fine, and there are enough chairs if we arrive a little early to rearrange. Let me know your thoughts on the reading schedule and whether we should send a poll for the meeting date.
