12/20/2010: "More (on) Imports"
It seems this issue of import restrictions is quite popular. Since posting a pair of rebuttals to a political idea by J. Michael Straczynski, I've read numerous other takes on the idea that back up it being a bad idea.
Here's a sampling, in no particular order:
"Are Rising Imports a Boon or Bane to the Economy?" considers correlations between rising imports and our economic situation.
"No Labels" considers all the other factors of production that could go into a good other than manufacturing.
"Foreign Aid" discusses how a trade deficit is actually a benefit.
"KFC in Africa and How Imports Create U.S. Jobs"
"Why Not Double Imports or Just Total International Trade Over the Next Five Years to Create Jobs?" points out that over half of USA imports are actually inputs to their manufacturing.
